They Do It with Mirrors is a detective fiction novel by Agatha Christie, first published in the US by Dodd, Mead and Company in 1952 under the title of Murder with Mirrors and in the UK by the Collins Crime Club on 17 November that year under Christie's original title. At the beginning of the story, Miss Jane Marple is visiting her old friend Ruth Van Rydock. They talk about Carrie Louise who is a Rydock’s sister and a Marple’s friend. They all were at the same school in Italy so they have known themselves for a long time. Carrie Louise is a very happy lady without any problems and she doesn’t know anything about the true world. Ruth worries about her sister. She claims that Carrie Louise marries crunks. But for Carrie Louise, they are men with ideas. She is having the third husband now – Lewis Serrocold. Her previous husbands were Gulbrandsen who earned a lot of money honestly but died when Carrie had 32 years, and Restarick – her second husband who married her because of her money and left her for a Yugoslavian woman. Now, Carrie Louise lives with her third husband at Stonygates, converted into a home for delinquent boys which is, run by Lewis Serrocold. Lewis is devoted to these juveniles and he wants to teach them how to contribute to society. He thinks that they were all only “mental cases”. Ruth has a premonition that something is wrong at Stonygates but she doesn’t know what.
