Stephen Edwin King is an American author best known for his enormously popular horror novels. King was the 2003 recipient of The National Book Foundation. After graduating from the University of Maine, King earned a certificate to teach high school but, unable to find a teaching post immediately, initially supplemented his labouring wage by selling short stories to men's magazines such as Cavalier.
