The Talisman

Reader:

The Talisman was one of the first of a series of collaborations by the masters of the Horror genre through the eighties, nineties, and beyond. The idea of writing The Talisman first took form when Stephen King moved with his family to London in early 1977. It was there he met Peter and Susan Straub, and their children. The two writers became friends, both being fans of each other's work. King and his family left London three months later to return to the United States. At the tail-end of the 1970s, Stephen King and Peter Straub decided to write a novel together. It took them four years to get started, and when they did, it was essentially writing in turns: doing the beginning and the end together, and then passing the narrative back and forth between themselves in a writing relay. The novel follows the story of Jack Sawyer as he accompanies his mother Lily Kavanaugh-Sawyer to a dreary and depressing rain-drenched resort in New England. Lily Sawyer is dying of cancer. Jack Sawyer soon encounters the mysterious Speedy Parker a local handyman who seems to know the cure for his mother and for many of the strange woes that are befalling Jack. He reveals to Jack that there is, in fact, another world alongside our own called the Territories which his own father knew about, and which he must travel through to get to the other side of America if he is to save his mother… Listen online to free English audiobook "The Talisman” on our website to experience a novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub.
