Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter is a series of urban fantasy novels, short stories, and comic books by Laurell K. Hamilton. The sexual content of the Anita Blake novels became both explicit and sadomasochistic in nature as the series progressed. Since Hamilton's vampires and lycanthropes are largely invulnerable and heal very quickly, it leaves them open to explore the more extreme aspects of BDSM. Concepts of slavery are present in various vampire relationships. Burnt Offerings, the seventh book in the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series, blends elements of supernatural, police procedural, and erotic fiction. As with previous novels, Burnt Offerings refers to a location within the novel itself. In this case, Burnt Offerings is a vampire-themed theme restaurant where some of the events of the novel take place. This novel is set about six weeks after the previous one, based on a conversation between Dolph and Anita where she claims she hasn't killed anyone in nearly seven weeks. On the same grounds, it's likely that this novel falls on June instead of early July. It would be a bit weird for Dolph to tell Anita not to kill anyone this month if she hadn't killed anyone the previous month either, and presumably, Anita would have then pointed out that instead of resorting to counting weeks. This timeline also fits with the reference to events of The Laughing Corpse, which was set in previous August, happening "almost a year" ago… You can listen online to free English audiobook “Burnt Offerings” by Laurell K.
