Holiday Task

Reader:

Hector Hugh Munro, better known by the pen name Saki, and also frequently as H. H. Munro, was a British writer whose witty, mischievous and sometimes macabre stories satirize Edwardian society and culture. Munro was born in Akyab, Burma in 1870. In 1872 while she was on a trip to England, his mother Mary was charged by a cow. She suffered a miscarriage, never recovered, and died in 1872 when Munro was only two years old. After her death, the Munro children were sent from Burma back to England where they lived with their grandmother and aunts in a strict puritanical household. In Holiday Task, Jerton is a youngish man of ordinary appearance, quiet of dress,  and he has unobtrusive of manner. He seems very shy and he keeps thinking things like, everyone in the room is looking at him and he feels like there is a spotlight on him. When in reality, no one is looking. After he had ordered his lunch he, for his own surprise, asked about the roses that were standing on his table. He got an answer from a pleasant-faced, well-dressed young woman who was sitting at a table that almost touched Jerton’s. They started chatting and the young lady said that she had a loss of memory and didn’t remember her name. But she felt she was a noble lady so she asked Kenelm to help her in finding out her name… You can listen online to free English audiobook “Holiday Task” by Saki on our website.
