Richard Stanley Francis was a British crime writer, and former steeplechase jockey, whose novels centre on horse racing in England. Francis was born in Coedcanlas, Pembrokeshire, Wales. His autobiography says that he was born at his maternal grandparents' farm at Coedcanlas on the estuary of the River Cleddau, roughly a mile north-west of Lawrenny. His mother had likely returned to her parents' home to give birth, as was a custom. Dick Francis left school at 15 without any qualifications, intending to become a jockey; by the time he was 18, in 1938, he also was training horses. Felix Francis is Dick Francis’ younger son. Felix studied physics and electronics at London University and then embarked upon a 17-year career teaching Advanced Level physics at three schools, the last seven as head of the science department at Bloxham School in Oxfordshire, before quitting to look after his father's affairs. They wrote together the novel Dead Heat. With the publication of it in 2007, Felix took on a more significant role in writing. Felix's first novel written without his father was Gamble, published in September 2011. Max Moreton is a rising culinary star and his Newmarket restaurant, The Hay Net, has brought him great acclaim and a widening circle of admirers. But when nearly all the guests who enjoyed one of his meals at a privately catered affair fall victim to severe food poisoning, his kitchen is shuttered and his reputation takes a hit… Enjoy free online English audiobook “Dead Heat”, a breathtaking novel by Dick Francis and Felix Francis.
